  Brief History of DSB Campus, Kumaun University, Nainital Kumaon University was established in the year 1971 under sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the Uttar Pradesh State University Act, 1973 (Act No. 10 of 1973) under the Uttar Pradesh Government's Notification No. (10) 8651/15/75(85)/61 Dated the 23rd November, 1971. Under the UGC Act 1956, Kumaun University was granted Section 12 (e) recognition by the University Grants Commission. The Hermitage (an old British building), Kumaun University, Nainital

  The Hermitage is an old British building, situated in a serene and sunny hillock North of Nainital beneath the mighty Naina peak, 2611 mt. high. Reminiscent of the British Era, The Hermitage is a beautiful Landmark building in Nainital; Uttarakhand built in the year 1880. It is one of the rare residential building representatives of the British in habitation in the town of Nainital. Hermitage is now the property of the Kumaun University. The Hermitage was constructed by the British Army officer  Colonel W. Barron  in the second last decade of the 19th Century. This beautiful building is erected under Indo-British architectural style and over a decent area of 2248 sq. mt of land in this small town. This building is known for its traditional wisdom for its site selection, beautiful wallpapers, gradient of stairs, rain water harvesting system, and tranquil and pleasant location.
